About the flag

Russia's flag is three equal horizontal stripes of white, blue and red. The tricolour dates back to the time of Peter the Great around 1700, when it was used on merchant ships. It was replaced by the red Soviet flag in the 20th century and restored in 1991. The same three colours, known as the pan-Slavic colours, appear on the flags of several Slavic countries.
