About the flag

Latvia's flag is carmine red with a narrow white horizontal stripe across the middle, in proportions of 2:1:2. It is one of the oldest flags in Europe: a 13th-century chronicle describes a red banner with a white stripe. The flag was used from 1918, officially adopted in 1921, banned during the Soviet period and restored in 1990.
