About the flag

Poland's flag is two equal horizontal bands: white on top, red below. The colours come from the national coat of arms, a white eagle on a red shield, which has represented Poland since the Middle Ages. The flag was officially adopted in 1919, soon after Poland regained independence. A version with the coat of arms in the white band is used by some official bodies and at sea.
