About the flag
France's flag, the Tricolore, is three vertical bands of blue, white and red, with blue at the flagpole. It dates from the French Revolution: blue and red were the colours of Paris, and white was the colour of the monarchy. Its layout inspired many other national flags, especially in Europe and Africa.
