About the flag

Italy's flag, Il Tricolore, is three equal vertical bands of green, white and red, with green at the flagpole. It was inspired by the French tricolour and was first adopted in 1797 by the Cispadane Republic in northern Italy. The plain version became the national flag when Italy became a republic in 1946.
