About the flag

Luxembourg's flag is three horizontal bands of red, white and light blue. The colours come from the coat of arms of the Grand Duke: a red lion on a field of blue and white stripes. The flag was formally defined in law in 1972. Because it looks so close to the Dutch flag, Luxembourg also uses a red lion ensign on its rivers and lakes.

The Dutch flag uses a darker blue and is shorter. Luxembourg's blue is noticeably lighter and its flag is longer.
