About the flag

Chad adopted its flag on 6 November 1959, shortly before independence from France in 1960. It is a vertical tricolour of blue, gold and red. The design joins the blue and red of the French tricolour with the gold of the pan-African colours.

The blue is usually read as the sky, hope and the waters of the south, the gold as the sun and the desert of the north, and the red as progress, unity and sacrifice. There is no emblem on the flag, so it depends entirely on its three colours.

Andorra's middle yellow band is wider than the other two and carries the coat of arms. Chad's bands are equal and plain.

Chad
Romania

Same three bands in the same order and almost the same proportions. Chad's blue is darker, closer to indigo; Romania's is a brighter cobalt.
