About the flag
Niger's flag has three horizontal stripes of orange, white and green, with an orange circle in the centre, and it is almost square. Orange is usually linked to the Sahara in the north, green to the fertile south along the Niger River, white to purity and the circle to the sun. It was adopted in 1959.
Often confused with
India's flag has a navy blue wheel instead of an orange circle, and it is longer.
Only the names are similar: Nigeria is Niger's southern neighbour, on the coast, and its flag is green, white and green vertical bands.
