About the flag
Nigeria's flag is three vertical bands of green, white and green. It was designed in 1959 by Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi, a student who entered a national competition; the judges removed the red sun he had drawn in the centre. Green stands for the country's forests and agriculture and white for peace and unity.
