About the flag

Sudan's flag has three horizontal stripes of red, white and black, with a green triangle at the flagpole. It was adopted in 1970 and uses the Pan-Arab colours. Red is usually linked to the struggle for independence, white to peace, black to the country's name, which comes from an Arabic phrase meaning land of the black people, and green to Islam and prosperity.
