About the flag

Indonesia's flag is two equal horizontal bands: red on top, white below, in a 2:3 shape. Indonesians call it Sang Saka Merah-Putih, the sacred red and white. The colours are often linked to the old Majapahit kingdom and are usually explained as red for courage and white for purity. It was first raised officially at the proclamation of independence on 17 August 1945.
