About the flag

India's flag is three horizontal stripes of saffron, white and green, with a navy blue wheel of 24 spokes in the centre. The wheel is the Ashoka Chakra, taken from an ancient lion capital of the emperor Ashoka. Saffron is usually read as courage, white as peace and truth, and green as faith and the land. It was adopted on 22 July 1947, shortly before independence.
