About the flag

Mexico's flag is a vertical tricolour of green, white and red with the national coat of arms in the centre: an eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus, devouring a snake. The image comes from the Aztec legend of the founding of Tenochtitlan, today's Mexico City. The current design dates from 1968.

Often confused with

Italy has the same three colours but no emblem. If there's an eagle in the middle, it's Mexico.
