About the flag

Bulgaria's flag is three equal horizontal stripes of white, green and red. It was introduced after the country's liberation in 1878. White is usually read as peace, green as the land and its farming, and red as the courage of the Bulgarian people. Earlier versions carried a lion emblem, but the plain tricolour has been the national flag since 1990.

Hungary has the same three colours in a different order: red on top, then white, then green. White on top means Bulgaria.
