About the flag
Türkiye's flag is red with a white crescent and a five-pointed star, set slightly towards the flagpole. It is known in Turkish as Ay Yıldız, the moon star, or al bayrak, the red flag. The design comes from the flag of the Ottoman Empire, and its proportions were fixed by law in 1936.
