About the flag
Venezuela's flag has three equal horizontal stripes of yellow, blue and red, with an arc of eight white stars in the blue stripe. The stars stand for the seven provinces that signed the 1811 declaration of independence, plus an eighth added in 2006 for Guayana. The state flag also carries the coat of arms near the flagpole.
Often confused with
Colombia's yellow stripe takes up half the flag and there are no stars.
Ecuador's yellow stripe takes up half the flag and there is a coat of arms instead of stars.
