About the flag

Brazil's flag is green with a yellow diamond and a blue globe in the centre. The globe shows the night sky over Rio de Janeiro on 15 November 1889, the day the republic was proclaimed, with 27 stars for the states and the Federal District. A white band across it carries the motto "Ordem e Progresso", order and progress. Green and yellow come from the royal houses of the old Brazilian empire.
