About the flag

The flag of the United States has thirteen horizontal stripes of red and white and a blue rectangle with fifty white stars. The stripes stand for the thirteen original colonies and the stars for the fifty states. A star is added whenever a state joins, so the flag has changed many times; the current version dates from 1960, after Hawaii became a state.
