About the flag

The flag of the Republic of the Congo is divided diagonally into three bands: green at the flagpole, yellow in the middle and red at the free end. It uses the pan-African colours: green for the forests and agriculture, yellow for friendship and the nation's wealth, and red for the struggle for independence. It was first adopted in 1959 and restored in 1991.

Often confused with

Only the names are similar: DR Congo is the much larger neighbour across the Congo River, and its flag is sky blue with a red diagonal stripe and a yellow star.
