About the flag

Guinea-Bissau's flag has a red vertical band at the flagpole with a black five-pointed star, and two horizontal bands of yellow over green on the right. It was adopted in 1973, when the country declared independence from Portugal. The design was inspired by the flag of Ghana, and the black star is often called the black star of Africa.
