About the flag

Costa Rica's flag has five horizontal stripes: blue, white, a red stripe twice as wide as the others, then white and blue. The red was added in 1848, inspired by the colours of the French Revolution. The state flag carries the national coat of arms on the red stripe towards the flagpole, while the civil flag is plain.

Thailand's flag uses the same colours the other way round: red on the outside and a wide blue stripe in the middle. A wide red middle stripe means Costa Rica.
