About the flag

Qatar's flag is maroon with a broad white band at the flagpole, divided by a serrated edge of nine white points. The nine points are often said to show Qatar as the ninth member of the reconciled emirates of the Gulf after its 1916 treaty with Britain. The maroon is said to come from a natural dye that darkened in the sun. At 11:28 it is the widest national flag in the world, more than two and a half times as long as it is high.

Often confused with

Qatar
Bahrain

Bahrain's flag is bright red, not maroon, has only five white points and is much shorter. Maroon with nine points means Qatar.
