About the flag
Malawi's flag has three horizontal stripes of black, red and green, with a red rising sun in the black stripe. The sun stands for the dawn of hope and freedom across Africa, black for the people, red for the blood of those who fought for freedom and green for nature. It was adopted at independence in 1964 and briefly replaced between 2010 and 2012.
