About the flag
The flag of the United Kingdom, the Union Jack or Union Flag, combines three crosses: the red cross of St George for England, the white diagonal cross of St Andrew for Scotland, and the red diagonal cross of St Patrick for Ireland. The current version dates from 1801. Wales isn't represented because it was already joined to England when the first union flag was created. The flag isn't symmetrical, so it can easily be flown upside down.
