About the flag
Kenya's flag has three horizontal stripes of black, red and green, separated by thin white stripes, with a Maasai shield and two crossed spears in the centre. Black stands for the people, red for the struggle for independence, green for the land and white for peace. The shield and spears represent the defence of freedom. It was adopted at independence in 1963.
