About the flag
Chile's flag has two horizontal stripes, white on top and red below, with a blue square in the top corner by the flagpole holding a white five-pointed star. The star is known as La Estrella Solitaria, the lone star. Blue stands for the sky and the Pacific, white for the snow of the Andes and red for the blood of independence fighters. It was adopted in 1817.
